About Claire

FB_IMG_1674933143094

I am an artist, author, and researcher of faeries and the unexplained. I love walking on Dartmoor and writing about its mysteries and folklore. Reclaiming our sense of childlike wonder by engaging with the natural world and understanding its rhythms is essential for personal well-being and sustaining wild places.

I live with my teenage children in South Devon and produce a podcast called ‘Fairy Whispering’ where I interview guests about their supernatural experiences. As a faerie experiencer, I am sensitive to the guests who share their encounters with me.  I ask all who engage with my work to keep an open heart and mind and to walk a mile in someone else’s shoes.

Please find out more from my podcast appearances!

How My Faerie Connection Began

My faerie connection began during childhood.  Most of my time was engaged in drawing, painting, writing and imaginative play outdoors, making things from flowers, plants, twigs, mud and anything else I could find.  My mother and grandmothers taught me to knit, sew, bake, garden and the names of flowers, trees and plants.

Family walks on Dartmoor helped me to engage with the wild and untamed intuitively.  I especially loved to hear my grandfather's stories of growing up on Dartmoor and its folklore.  I learnt that faeries called ‘Pixies’ lived on Dartmoor.

My First Faerie Encounters

My first experience that I call 'faerie' was aged nineteen, staying with friends of the family in an old cottage in Somerset in the 1990s.  I woke up in the night, in the pitch black and saw a green light hovering at the end of my bed.  I tried to explain it through rational means, but couldn't.

Then as an art student in Wales, I had my first faerie encounter. One night, I saw a little humanoid on my fig plant, resembling a male elf. The being was six inches tall with dark, curious eyes, an earthy complexion, and slender limbs. Upon researching Welsh faeries, I learned that Ellyllon are the Welsh version of elves, smaller than Tylwyth Teg, and live in the Welsh Valleys away from humans.

I did not talk about the experience with anyone at the time.  However, it impacted on me deeply.  When I returned home after graduating, I began filling my sketchbooks with faery drawings!  I share these experiences in various podcast interviews.

Faery Whispering

Throughout my life, I have developed a strong connection with nature and the faerie realm through a personal process I call 'Faery Whispering'. This process involves following my intuition when feeling the call to visit wild places, spending time respectfully in that place, and connecting with the fae.

To begin my process, I walk mindfully to the location, ask permission to enter, make an offering, meditate there, and document my visit through notes, sketches, and photography. I always give thanks before leaving the area.

My Faerie Artwork

I often find faery faces in nature while taking photographs. My artwork comes from my intuitive channeling from spirit and the Faerie Realm. I guide others to work in harmony with the fae. Knowing your guide from the spirit or faery realms can help you find clarity in life, supported and loved by them.

The Faery folk have much to teach us and we can partner with them to benefit Mother Earth and all life.  I have incorporated their joyfully mischievous spirit into my creative work. Whenever I feel lost, they gently guide me home.

I've lost connection with the faery realm several times due to fear of embracing it.  A repeated pattern of faery connection and withdrawal from enchantment continued until I became unwell with ME (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) in 2013.  After leaving my job I volunteered at a local heritage garden and nature became part of my healing path.  I qualified as a meditation teacher, Reiki practitioner and natural mindfulness guide. The faeries stepped ever closer, and I qualified in 2016 as a Fairyologist.

Now, I have realised that my life purpose is to help others understand the hidden realms through my research and engage with enchantment by using my creativity.  Overall, working in partnership with nature and the many dimensions that are here to support us, can help maintain well-being for ourselves and Mother Gaia.
